Jasmine Wong – G.R.D & VIP Lounge Executive - Hong Kong Business Aviation Centre

Upon completion of Bachelor, thanks to the overseas recruitment opportunities at school, I was selected to enroll in a one year Management Training Program in a country Club in Virginia, USA.

Everything was new to me when I first got there, the people, the environment, the culture and the working style. All of these inspired me a lot and that was really a unique and remarkable experience in my life.

Two months after coming back from the states, I joined my present company - Hong Kong Business Aviation Centre (HKBAC). Our company is Asia’s premier executive aviation support facility for those who own, operate or charter business aircraft. In 2009, we were voted Best Asian FBO for the 2nd consecutive year by Pro Pilot. I work in the Guest Relations department in providing superior passenger services and overseeing the operation of the VIP lounge.

Ting - Assistant Sales Manager - The Grand Formosa Regent

The first image when I arrived Switzerland, was beautiful white snow and then I saw how pretty this school is.

After doing my diploma course, we learned about not only the theory of hospitality, but also service and kitchen practical experience. I learned a lot from it, including communication and professional attitude with people. I was surprised that when I went for my first try-out in the hotel for my internship, I was able to use everything the school has been teaching us, for example, setting the tables and the way of serving. The school has students from all over the world, it contains very rich cultural atmosphere. I learned a lot about other different cultures. I have very pleasant experiences to study and work with friends and the strong teamwork experience which is central to hospitality management. After working for Amari Hotels and Resorts in Thailand, having a fantastic experience in the front office management department, I am now working as the Ass. Sales Manager at The Grand Formosa Regent Taipei - A Four Seasons Hotel.

Caleigh - Courtesy Department Supervisor – Macau Grand Hyatt

I am now currently working in the City of Dreams, it’s a complex consisting of three hotels- the Crown Towers, HardRock Hotel and Grand Hyatt. My position is “Supervisor of the Courtesy Department”. You might ask what is a Courtesy Department? This is a newly developed department, our main role is to be a representative of the City of Dreams, to be an icon of the company. We have to be super friendly, and know every part of the hotel well.

I am fortunate enough to be appointed as the supervisor of the team, I am in charge of the 10+ hosts, and also the cloak room with consists of 50 + staffs. I love my job as they provide us with a lot of training, like we learnt a lot about casino games. I am very happy that my team is very cooperative, all willing to learn and most importantly, they are all friendly and positive people.

I would like to show my gratitude to my school, of teaching me how to provide high quality customer service, and how to be positive all the time.

Barbara - Public Relations Executive – China

To study in Switzerland is a wonderful experience and I will never forget the time I spent with my classmates. I have made lots of friends from different countries and it was better for me to learn about different cultures.

We had several culture nights that we organized by ourselves. It not only trained the students how to organize the event but also for people to learn about each other’s countries’ cultures. After I got the Bachelor Degree, I went to the United States to work on a hospitality management training program. The training program lasted 1 year and I worked in 5 different hotel departments. I got a general idea of how to run the daily operation and also learnt many service skills from my colleagues. I went to Shanghai, China after I finished the training program. My first job was to assist the Executive Assistant Manager of Westin Shanghai. Besides assisting the EAM with his tasks, I needed to observe the department’s daily operation to avoid guest complaints. I also needed to deal with all suppliers and make contracts. This job helped me to change from a student to a professional manager. Now I am working in the Public Relations Industry, and my experience and education has taught me to work in any service industry not only within a hotel, as there are common points in that both of them providing a service to all clients.

I appreciate that I have had a chance to study and work in abroad. All these experiences have made me a more open-minded person and to consider everything from different aspects. I think that everyone can learn things from their own experience and they will be very fortunate in the future.

Le - Asst. F&B Manager - Rotana Hotel Group

During my one year with Rotana, thanks to the amount of knowledge and practical experience gained in school, I have been very confident and able to adapt quickly to the 5 star hotel environment. Rotana gave me comprehensive training in all aspects, and I was involved in many departmental projects at all level and best of all, I was promoted as Asst. Outlet Manager for the pre-opening of Amwaj Rotana in Dubai (http://www.rotana.com/property-25.htm), in charge of pre-opening for a 150 seats Benihana (http://www.benihana.com). It is also possible that I will do pre-opening for the Steak house at Oryx Rotana, Qatar property - a brand new experience for me. For all current and future students: Try your best and someday, it will be your turn to write a graduate story. I wish you a lot of fun, and the best of luck.

Bruce - Manager of QA & Branding - Best Western Hotel Chain

I got my MBA Degree in Hospitality. I am now working for Best Western (China) head office as the manager in charge of member hotel Quality Assurance, Branding Identity and also as a part of Group Purchasing. Last November, I have been receiving training as a qualified BW Quality Assurance Administrator and Auditor.

During a half year member hotels quality audit, I got many chances to meet the hotel owners and managers. Many of them are asking me whether we could recruit some international students to work for the hotels as Management Trainees. The Member Hotels will provide accommodation and salary to students, and after the training is completed the trainees will get a Certificate from Best Western International.

I think this is very good opportunity for all graduates. They will have chance to see how China is developing and experience the hotel industry here. This in my view is very good for anyone future career. Best Western International has already had more than 4000hotels in the world and the BW hotels all are independently operated and owned. But all member hotels have to follow one quality assurance standard and arrange the audit schedule for each member hotel in China and that depends on the former audit report score. So far we have 62 hotels in China, 35 hotels operating and 27 hotels at pre-opening stage. I believe that there will be a lot of opportunity for students to practice their management skills here.

My progress has been very good and I think that with correct attitude, confidence and ambition all graduates can be successful.
