Students choose to pursue their Hotel Management degree in Swiss not only because Swiss’s Hotel Management programe is world-renowned, but the programe offered a beneficial internship experience which helps its student to develop a brighter future.
Every program includes 2 times compulsory overseas paid internship. Students can choose to complete four to six months paid internship in different countries, such as United State, Britain, Australia, Dubai, etc,. Students not only can earn salaries, but can also learn practical hotel knowledge and explore different cultures.
Each school have an Internship Office to assist students’ internship-related matters, including choosing the most suitable internship, instruct them on interviews techniques and provide help during the internship period. Some schools will even hold International Recruitment Forum twice a year, inviting numerous five-star hotels from all around the world to participate in the forum. This forum does not only provide presentations to students but will also interview and recruit candidates for full time employment as well as internship positions.
Some schools providing in-campus International Recruitment Forum, students will have the opportunity to meet with representatives from well-known hotels and have interviews.
The flow of internships
After school has started, internship office will arrange internship workshops for students. Throughout the course, Internship Officer of the school will explain to students their internship arrangement; instruct them on the skills of writing a resume and attending interviews. Students will also need to choose their destination for internships;
Based on the student’s preference and background, Internship Officer will send out student’s resume to relevant employers and arrange job interviews. Some school will hold International Recruitment Forum in school. Students will be able to have interviews with employers from hotel groups, resorts and many other industry groups from all around the world.
School will assist students in handling with internships’ contracts and applying for working visa to other countries.
Internship Officer will still provide help and assistance to students during their internship period.
Paid Internships
Swiss Graduates are well-known for their rich knowledge, international insights and sincere working attitudes and facts have shown that they have won the flavor of the international hotel industry. Students fulfill their dreams towards the industry in hotels all over the world, and have continued to improve the world with their innovative ideas learned from school.
Internship
The first and second year Bachelor degree and postgraduate degree students are required to practice a 4 to 6 months internship each year. Students can choose to work in Swiss or other overseas country like America, Australia, United Kingdom, Dubai etc according to their preference. Not only can working in an foreign environment improves students’ language ability, it also gives them the golden opportunity to experience from the culture of different countries and nation and be more familiarize with the hotel system of different countries.
Under the law of Federal Government of Switzerland, students of Swiss hotel and tourism education students are required to have a guaranteed minimum income of CHF2, 115 per month. After excluding the food and accommodation fee, insurance fee and other expenses which is about CHF 715, the net income is approximately CHK 1,400 per month (about HKD 9,800). Assume the student is taking 6 months internship; he/she will be able to earn at least HKD 58,800 which is approximately equals to 30% of the school and accommodation fee of one year study of Swiss Hotel and Tourism Education.
Internship students are mainly engaged in the following departments for their internship practice:
Front desk office, housekeeping department, catering department, banqueting services, marketing departments, etc.
Swiss hotel and tourism education bachelor degree programe includes two terms of internship, which is respectively on the second term and the forth term. As for postgraduate degree programe, no matter it is a one year programe or a two years programe, students will need to attend lectures for the first half term and practice internship for the second half term (exception for HIM one year Master degree programe)
Hotel Management is a programe that requires the integration of theory and practical practices. Through the internship practices, students can fully utilize their learnt theory in to real practical uses. Furthermore, students can be more familiarize and grasp the practical operations and management of a hotel, and enhance their interpersonal relation and foreign language abilities.
Internship destinations are not limited in Swiss. School will normally recommend first year students to practice their internship is Swiss, but will encourage them to choose other countries as their second internship’s destination, such as America, United Kingdom, Australia, Dubai, to broaden their horizons.
Switzerland or overseas paid internship
Switzerland internship:
Minimum salary per month: CHF 2,115 (HKD 14,805)
Net salary: CHF 1,400 (HKD 9,800) fees of accommodation, meal, medical insurance and other expenses are deducted
6 months total net salary: CHF 1,400 X 6 = CHF 8,400 (HKD 58,800)
Total salary earned in 6 months approximately equals to 30% of the school and accommodation fee of one year study of Swiss Hotel and Tourism Education.
Other than having internship in Switzerland, students can also have internship in USA, UK, Australia, Dubai or many other countries. Students can not only widen their horizons, but also have the opportunity to apply for working permits to work in the countries or even apply for immigration.
